WAYS WE SERVE

Serving and being involved in the community is an important part of Word of Hope. If you are interested in serving in any of these areas, please contact Pastor Sandy.

Advent and Lent Noisy Can Collections

During the seasons of Advent and Lent, we choose a special world organization to take up a second collection for on each of these Sundays. Our children collect money from the congregational members using noisy cans. In the past we have chosen to donate the collections to Lutheran World Relief Clean Water and hunger programs, Heifer International, Nothing but Nets, as well as other organizations.

Fair Trade Fair Christmas Assistance Wrapping 001

Each year during the holiday season, we host Lucia’s World Emporium with their fair trade products. Congregational members enjoy buying their beautiful items each year. Fair trade is a sustainable business model designed to cultivate and maintain a healthy economy and empower artisans in impoverished regions.

Hats and Scarves for the Homeless

Each year several congregational members knit or crochet hats and scarves for those who are less fortunate. These are then donated to local homeless shelters. For those who are new to either of these skills, we have Knifty Knitters and yarn available as well as instruction.

St. Augustine’s Chapel Campus Ministry

This is a joint Lutheran and Episcopal campus ministry at the University of Kentucky. We help with various projects through the year, provide some of the meals for their Sunday night gatherings, help with some of their Sunday night service music, and collect snacks for the students.

We offer two different worship services each Sunday morning. Our 8:15am Service is quiet, meditative & traditional while the 10:45 Service is more contemporary with a range of instruments and contemporary music.

We invite you to join us for Coffee & Conversation in the between the services time at 9:30am. Our Senior High and Middle School Youth meet each Sunday for casual conversation and also have regular monthly youth activities. We offer Children's Christian Education for all ages from September-May.
